The Curse of Oak Island

Season 7 - Episode 17

"To Boulderly Go"

RECAP: Season 7, Episode 17

"To Boulderly Go

  • SWAMP: Opening shot, and I do want to talk a few times about specific camera angles and shots from this episode, it was beautiful for real, because I think we have the best shot or at least way up on the pretty cool list I have seen so far on our favorite show The Curse of Oak Island later to discuss, OK?...but...

    • Dr. Spooner and Rick roll up on the swamp and if you see, Dr. Spooner I bet is just scanning the swamp visually from that front seat as he rolls up on the scene, Rick talking to him about something hopefully explainable,

    • The team is out in the swamp, Mr. Clotworthy reminds the audience about the possibility of a man made 8 century old swamp, and Rick begins pointing to Dr. Dr. Dr. Spooner ..the big boulders they uncovered after draining it a week ago…recall: blue clay, boulders , part of Nolan’s Cross type boulders?

      • Dr Spooner jumps in and pulls out a stick from this new area of boulders, not much different than the other paved area he comments (A man made pathway)

      • And I think it has been awhile? But who moseys on up in the swamp screen right? Mr. Laird Niven, Archaeologist. Run it.

      • Dr. Spooner comments this stuff was deposited and then filled in by the swamp quickly, Laird says he saw the same type of artifacts/remains on filled in cellars, not natural “Stratigraphy” the good Dr.. notes

      • Disruptive event took place, Billy takes a layer out to continue going down, Rick even said it is weird out there in the swamp

MARI VINEYARDS:

o Mr. Marty Lagina is discussing the steel cofferdam that…get ready…needs to come down…the permit is up in a month, they need to get all that out and restore the area, remember what our friend Billy said when we spoke to him about how stories were told about Oak Island beach? And they restored the beach back and better than before…

o Would have loved to keep it up always, but not the case, takes 3 weeks at least to get it outta there, dismantle, Irving Equipment needs cranes back in here to clear it out,

UPLANDS:

o Rick tells Billy, our window is closing to try to get at the flood tunnel shut off in this area, the cranes are coming for them for the cofferdam and they need to get this going

o Many wooden structures recall in this area mid 19th century wooden structures were found, coconut fibers, now, where is that flood tunnel?

o Terry Matheson arrives, they are trying to get more out of there to ID what it is

o They keep digging and great views of way down in the hole, brings out large piece of hand hewn axe cut wood pieces

o THE BEST SHOT EVER: RICK IN THE BUCKET…being lowered into the hole waaaaaaay down there looking at these wood beams in there..Terry yelling at him to look out, Rick just lazered in on what is in that hole, the back and forth is great

o Terry says right here, he was hoping to get to the bottom of that one but time in this area is nearly up here

o Here comes Marty and Rick in full harness to go check out this big rock Billy hit and asked to have checked out, but Marty says Billy must stop, losing ground under him, and Marty sees wood and a tunnel going away from them, is it the flood tunnel?

o And here comes Scott Barlow hooking up the camera to the Long Arm! So awesome here these images, a flat out tunnel is what I saw! As Marty and Rick are right there together looking at these images… later on in the War Room the team reviews these stunning images, down 30ft below Billy notes, Mr. Steve Guptill tagged this location and it lines up perfectly with U shaped structure if it had a purpose, could age this to original if dendro supports this? But…IT STOPS HERE, COFFERDAMN OUT THE DOOR

Lot #21: Peter and Alex arrive on scene to check up with the progress Laird is making on the archaeological dig taking place

o Conservator Kelly Bourassa is on scene sifting material from the dig here

o Remember This is Daniel McGinnis home site, 1795 Hall of Famer

o Got that permit a few weeks ago thank you Mr Niven, a sub-basement in this area is possibly there?

o And Mr. McQuiston is highlighted at this point! if you listened last episode of our podcast you will hear this connection as well! But on the show, it is noted McGinnis may have had inside info to get Money Pit due to Freemasonry connection…

o Laird shows old photos of this site and lines up where they are now and what wall they are looking at digging near, “get the trowels in the ground” Mr. Niven notes, keep going!

o Rick and Craig show up later and Laird found a trap door? Leading to the secret basement? And a bone handled knife, oldest artifact found he notes, 1750s end of 1700s, if they want to keep investigating this area, Laird needs to go back and present evidence to expand diggable areas to continue with

WAR ROOM: laser data results on that slab of material discovered on lot #17 from Rick and Gary

o Dr. Chris McFarlane, Prof of Geochemistry at U of New Brunswick, notes that this is a weird piece of lead, mercury and tin! Mercury …found on lead in money pit area,

o Jack brings up FOTP Petter Amundson’s theory here! Francis Bacon document preservation theory method with mercury detailed in Bacon’s work “Novum Organum”

§ Evidence supporting theory? Molds, bacteria prevented from attacking anything with mercury, where did this Lead come from? Greek Mainland, Greek Archapalego, Cyprus, Turkey? and the look on Gary’s face is classic YES with this info…Templar …like Drayton's Cross?

GOOD BYE COFFERDAMN- so much for that but great information collected…
