"Burnt Offering"

WAR ROOM:

    • First person we hear from, Gary Drayton, in War Room, referring to the dates that were previously confirmed from the wood sample from Money Pit area around 1626 on the dendro dating, is this part of the original Money Pit, or deposit team? Craig notes a big can could be placed here, needing a larger investigation, they need Irving and Roc, Vanessa…it may be Hammer Claw time again soon Time to dig again, Gary also last person heard from in opening War Room, Lets Go Kick Some Oak Island Butt!

Smith’s Cove:

    • Friend of the Podcast Mr. Laird Niven enters Smiths Cove with Craig, Jack, Rick..looking for guidance to dig in front of the box structure that was unearthed again, Laird says the dig can go ahead, no archaeological concerns here, go at it!

    • Rick asks, and what we all wonder, how far down does this wood structure go? Was it used to create the flood tunnels? Or stop the tunnels from flooding? Questions we need answers to

    • This wooden structure has no nails or metal fasteners, notes friend of the podcast Mr Robert Clotworthy, there is a chance this is original builders/

    • FOTP Billy G. digging in front of structure, Rick Craig and Jack jump in and hand dig it, and the large pieces begin to fall on Jack, and eventually, it all begins to cave in and collapses, and Jack also notes they don’t see the box drains, so not connection evident to connection to flood tunnel system, Rick notes to go after the Uplands and move forward

SWAMP:

    • Returned to swamp to find answers on the paved stone pat or walk way/wharf? This pathway possibly leads towards Eye of the Swamp?

    • Gary in swamp with Big Bertha looking for anything, locates old strap or bracket made of iron, looks like the INGE that Gary discovered in Smiths Cove and ID’d by FOTP Carmen Legge previously, calling Laird to come take a look at it

    • So …they need Carmen to look at it, at the Ross Farm Museum

    • Looking at many iron objects from Swamp, reviewing the spade? Shovel? But Carmen says not so fast, a plate to cover the inside of a wall or box is what this item is

    • Also looked at the old pickaxe, handmade, probably for mining or quarry this was used on, mid to late 1700s, but in a swamp? Carmen also notes why is this needed in a swamp?

    • Out of the swamp spoils the strap piece…off of a sailing ship? In the swamp? 9 inches 1710 and 1790 was common measurement used in this type of strap Carmen notes, and has been in a sustained fire, charred remains burned into the iron piece..a ship in the swamp

UPLANDS!

    • Looking to shut off ocean water to flood tunnel connection, previously they found a wooden structure about 50pcs underground, dated to 1730s on these samples,

    • They are finding a large square timber, and I thought they noted they never dug in this area before? Lots of undocumented area here at the Uplands… Hoping to find this flood tunnel and there is wood all over the place, Scott Barlow jumps in and starts looking around at it

    • Alex jumps in to the equipment! Operating and now the team will be focusing on this exciting area? Laird and Rick visit the site and start comparing these logs to other logs, need to keep digging, old square nail found, 1800s? wooden tunnel built by searchers after 1795?

  • MUG AND ANCHOR:

    • Shared Carmen’s feedback with the group over pints and fish and chips
