Season 7 Episode 11

RECAP: Season 7, Episode 11

“THE EYE OF THE STORM”

· Preview intro:

o Zooming into Swamp, Rick looks like he is picking up a wood piece from the muck that looks to be pointed

o Carmen Legge in the intro! Gary and Alex talking to NAFTAs only true blacksmith about something!

o Terry M. with core samples looking interesting..Money Pit wood? Marty dropping a super bomb line in beginning WHOA NELLEY KEITH JACKSON DROP IN

o A CATEGORY ONE STORM? Headed right for the Island! Looks like this could be an interesting event taking place with very real consequences

· ALL EVENTS LEAD TO DORIAN TONIGHT, SHE GETS HER OWN CATEGORY

· SWAMP:

o Marty and Billy Gerhardt in the big digger, the big beast equipment in the swamp, scraping loads of muck off that drained swamp

o Scientific evidence noted by Robert Clotworthy, that the swamp is manmade, and could be old, looking specifically at the stone walkway discoverrd by Tony Sampson earlier this year..even Marty says that data says there is something there worth digging, so gotta dig it

o But there is a hurricane en route, Hurricane Dorian and this is heading up the Eastern North American seaboard towards Oak Island, only a few days away

§ Would fill up swamp again, exploration would turn into a clean up and they would be done notes Marty

§ A survey stake shows up –—Rick immediately starts counting the cuts on it…6 cuts on this example, same as what Fred Nolan found in the swamp in the 1969 Swamp Draining…Fred Nolan discovered many of these stakes and carbon testing dated his examples to 16th century, they go back and show the interview with Fred Nolan on where he found these stakes right in the middle of the swamp was his reply

· Fred thought they were used to create the swamp !

· Purpose still unknown, Rick wants to test his piece as well..Bag it and Tag it Marty notes

§ Billy takes over, scrapes the top of more muck to continue investigation and finds a 2nd! Counts the cuts again, and notes that Hurricane is coming! Could all be flooded again!

o Going after this paved way or paved area before this hurricane hits, hustle time before this thing fills up again with seawater from storm

§ Rick asks if this paved area has something to do with Money Pit, well I think we agree with that question.

§ Rick and Craig jump in looking for this paved area, still so mucky but they can feel stones and hit stones hit the shovel, like a layer of the stones is there but water just bleeding in…

· Will dig a trench along this area to divert and move away the water to try to get at these stones Throw a pump in says Craig and get after it!

o Downgraded to Cat 1 and 90 mph with heavy rains, no mandatory evactuations but will be a mess for the swamp, a direct hit to Oak Island, Marty notes he has never been in a hurricane before but about to be…

§ Trying to excavate the paved area as much as possible, even Guptill is down there digging away

· Steve notes this area has elevation changes due to being able to track with his device, about a foot up from one end to the other

· Still so much crud to clean off in order to see this paved way

· Time to put gear away, far from trees falling to crush equipment, anything that can fly in air needs to be tied down

· Out of the swamp comes all equipment, just as it practically got there

· Smith’s Cove:

o Opens with Mr. Gary Drayton and Jack Begley detecting digging into the soil that was under that huge wooden structure where the impure lead was discovered,

§ Going after the good sandy stuff, Billy dumped this good stuff and Gary gets a hit! A signal..another screamer…Jack jumps in…finds a nice one mate, another cribbing spike of iron…ANOTHER CRIBBING SPIKE…they even note they have found many of these cribbing spikes this season…

· Gary notes he is dismayed so far with lack of really good coins from those that built the structure

· They need to hurry up as the Hurricane gets closer and closer

o Could be 150 kph winds

§ They need to get a dendro (tree ring dating) sample off of a large log from the structure

· MONEY PIT:

o Terry, Alex, Charles Barkhouse, Doug the gang, Scott Barlow: still exploring the shaft from #2 to Money Pit, 1805 are, zero in and pinpoint the old vault area

o They are still looking for this connection in order to drop a large can in this area HAMMER TIME CLIP insert in the future, they end up confirming disturbed ground in this sample

§ They have made the statement that this could be original Money Pit, will need to test these out

· BLACK SMITH CARMEN LEGGE GLOBAL HEADQUARTERS:

o Alex and Gary make the drive to Ross Farm museum, in New Ross

o Arranged to look at cribbing spikes to help tell a story of what where when etc

§ Carmen: “Well, lookie here”

§ All slipway area spikes, Carmen begins review, picks out one hollowed out in middle, inserted near a post? And aged probably before 1820 or even 1600s?

§ A post or heavy rod to make a thick wall? Or a dry dock for repairing ships, but Gary says, like rebar in roads and walls..to strengthen a wall

· DORIAN HITS:

o Typical storm damage and flooding shown from news clips…but then we see Rick and Marty on the causeway during one of the downpours..edge of road starting to slip away, washed out

§ Shows a blast wave from ocean over the wall at Smith’s Cove, flooding out the area where the team was standing just days ago

o The Road is in bad shape and they start marking stakes at areas where it washed out

o Two days after storm hits, they are back to Island to look at possible damages, shows trees snapped, and the Swamp is shown..totally flooded out again as one should expect

§ Got lucky as this was going to be much bigger than it ended up tuning into at least over Oak Island

§ Billy Gerhardt is at swamp, and they are all looking at flooded swamp, but they are going back at it to DRAIN PART II

§ No damage reported at Smiths Cove though, and Rick says he wants to be certain the search continues until answers are known
